Hi there.
I am so glad you found my page and to be able to share with you more about my work and approach.
I believe that everyone should have a place where they can be their true and authentic self. I work to help children, teens and families feel safe and validated in their experiences. I approach therapy with collaboration and creativity.
My work with children and adults aims to validate their emotional experiences, address unwanted or unhelpful behaviors and to process through difficult thought patterns. I am experienced in working with asynchronous development, emotional intensity and sensory-based play. I work with youth to develop a healthy sense of self, develop emotional regulation skills and to practice healthy communication skills.
My approach is emotion focused and interpersonal and many of my interventions are rooted in behaviorism. I like to incorporate the interests of my clients into creative approaches, art activities and conversation. This allows me to make growth and coping skills accessible and interesting.
I received my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Humboldt State University. Prior to my work with Beacon Wellness Team I worked with children and adolescents who are diagnosed with autism. In addition, I have extensive experience mentoring high school students and college aged individuals. In addition, I have a long history in being a nanny, where I enjoyed joining with families to best support their needs.
When I am not working with clients I find joy in being creative and always seem to have multiple craft and art projects in progress. I am a mother and wife and you can often find us out on bike rides together.
Take care,
Amanda
