Hello!

I’m glad you’ve found my page. I hope to share a few things about myself before we meet, so you can have a sense of how I operate and if I might be a good fit for you or your family.

I take a nonjudgmental, humanistic, and strengths-based approach in my work. Essentially, I want to help you discover what is best for you and find ways to bring that into being. I do this by focusing on the strength of the therapeutic relationship and assisting you in clarifying your goals. I will help you mindfully engage with your life and teach skills to help you act in accordance with your values, regardless of how you might be feeling in the moment. I work well with highly sensitive, twice-exceptional youth and young adults, and I am passionate about assisting parents in better understanding and supporting the needs of their children.

Depending on client needs, I use a blended approach of Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). Frequently, I tend to incorporate mindfulness practice as a means to values-driven action, and I pay special attention to the stories we tell ourselves that may influence behavior. I enjoy utilizing walk-and-talks, experiential methods of teaching, and engaging with kids and and their caregivers alike.

I earned my Master’s of Social Work through Boise State University. Prior to returning to school for my second Master’s degree (my first was in Environmental Literature), I worked as a wilderness guide in an inpatient therapeutic setting for teens and young adults. My approach as a therapist is largely informed by those years, which I spent mostly outdoors, teaching and learning about community, meaning-making, resiliency, and self-efficacy, all through the medium of surviving together in nature. If you’d like me to go on about this, feel free to ask me about how we cleaned our cups with dirt.

Other than my work with Beacon, the greatest joys in my life are my wife, our dog, good food, and rock climbing.

Take care,

Will
